Your family’s privacy

Santa Knows Your Name makes personal Santa films ordered by adults. This explains the information we use to make and deliver them. Questions: hello@santaknowsyourname.com.

What we collect

  • About your child: their first name, an optional sound-it-out spelling, an age group if you choose one, one or two things you’re proud of, whether you chose the bedtime goodbye, and an optional photo. Your browser finds the face and crops the photo to the frame on your device; only that crop is uploaded.
  • The film: Santa’s approved words, Santa’s recorded lines and video, transcripts and the results of our checks.
  • About you: your email address, payment references, order status and any messages you send us. Stripe handles card details; we never see or store card numbers.
  • Technical information such as IP address and browser, used by us and our hosting providers to run and protect the service.

We don’t need a surname, address, school, full date of birth or any account. Please leave health information and other sensitive details out of what you write.

Why we use it

We use your contact and order details to make, deliver and support your order, including the steps you ask for before paying (such as hearing Santa say a name). We use your child’s details only to make the film you asked for. We also use information to prevent abuse, fix problems, and handle refunds and legal duties.

We don’t sell personal information, and we never let your family’s details be used to train anyone’s software. Ordering a film doesn’t give us permission to publish it.

Who processes it

  • Vercel: hosts the website, stores media (including the photo until it’s deleted) and runs the computer that puts each film together.
  • Upstash: stores order records.
  • OpenAI: drafts Santa’s two personal lines from your details, and checks text and photos for anything unsuitable.
  • fal and its model providers (MiniMax for Santa’s voice, Sync Labs for lip-sync, Whisper for speech checks): receive the name, its sound-it-out spelling and Santa’s lines, to make and check his voice and lip movements. They don’t receive your photo.
  • Stripe: takes payment and refunds. It receives your email address and order details, including your child’s first name in the order description.
  • Resend: sends order and delivery emails, which include your child’s first name and the private link.
  • Vercel Web Analytics: counts page visits and key actions (see below).

These providers may process data outside your country and have their own retention terms. See OpenAI’s privacy policy and fal’s privacy policy.

How long we keep it

  • Your photo: deleted after your film is delivered.
  • Order in progress: kept in this browser tab for up to 24 hours so you can pick up where you left off. Draft words on our side expire after 24 hours.
  • Your film: the private link works for 120 days, then the hosted copy is removed. Download it to keep it.
  • Order and support records: kept separately for delivery, support, payment disputes and refunds. Ask us if you’d like them deleted.

The order form and checkout are for adults. We email the private link to you so you can watch first. Anyone with the link can watch the film, so share it with people you choose. Removing our copy doesn’t remove copies others have saved.

Only enter a child’s details if you’re responsible for them or have their parent or guardian’s permission. Children never need to enter anything or talk to anyone.

Your rights

Email hello@santaknowsyourname.com with your order number to ask for a copy of your information, a correction or deletion. We may need to check the request is yours. We aim to reply within 7 days.

Depending on where you live, you may also be able to restrict or object to processing, take a copy elsewhere, or complain to your data protection authority. Some payment records have to be kept by law; we’ll explain if that affects your request.

Cookies and visits

We don’t use advertising cookies or pixels. Vercel Web Analytics counts page visits and actions like starting an order, opening checkout or playing a film, using broad labels only: never names, email addresses, Santa’s words or private links. Private pages aren’t counted as page visits.

Your browser keeps your order in progress and a broad label for how you found us (such as “google” or “direct”) in tab storage, and remembers your day or night choice in local storage. Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout page, and the admin area uses one necessary cookie.
