Tricky names
Santa says it your way
Names are said differently all over the world, and even within one family. You hear Santa say the name before you pay, and you can teach him how it sounds.

Try it now
Hear Santa say their name
Type the name as it’s spelled. If Santa says it wrong, write how it sounds and listen again. Each listen is free, and the book keeps your spelling.
Santa says: “Ho ho ho! Hello, …!” with the name as you’ve taught him.

How to write how it sounds
Spell it the way it sounds in English, with hyphens between the parts: Shiv-awn, not “rhymes with on”. Leave out instructions like “pronounced” or “say”. Santa reads exactly what you write, so the sounds are all he needs.
These are common ways to write some names people often ask about. Your family’s way is the right one.
| Spelled | Write it as |
|---|---|
| Niamh | Neev |
| Saoirse | Sur-sha |
| Siobhan | Shiv-awn |
| Aoife | Ee-fa |
| Caoimhe | Kee-va |
| Oisín | Osh-een |
| Sinéad | Shin-aid |
| Eoin | Owen |
| Xanthe | Zan-thee |
| Rhys | Reese |
What keeps your spelling
The sound-it-out spelling only goes to Santa’s voice. Everything your child sees keeps the name exactly as you typed it: the gold writing in the Nice List, the gift tag, the end card, and the written copy of Santa’s words on your viewing page.
How we check it
When the film is made, every line Santa speaks is transcribed and compared with the words you approved, treating your sound-it-out spelling as the same name. If anything doesn’t match, the film is held for a person to check instead of being sent.
If it still isn’t right when you watch it, tell us within 14 days and we’ll remake it free. See help and refunds.
Their name, their way
Let Santa practise it
You’ll hear him say it on the order form too, before you pay anything.
